About f8...

So what's with the site name?

The quote "F8 and be there" was the inspiration for the first part of the site name.  The quote is attributed to the NYC street photographer Arthur Felig, aka "Weegee". When asked how he captured his images, Weegee replied with this now famous photography mantra.

What can we learn from it?

A few seconds can mean the difference between landing a shot at the "decisive moment". Or not at all.  Spending time to calculate aperture settings can be a liability in street photography. Weegee said just go with f8. Although there are tradeoffs, this is an easy way to guarantee a crisp, sharp photo.

"...be there", is an even more important, not-so-secret tip for success. Weegee was the only newspaper reporter with a permit for a portable police-band radio in his car. He knew the value of showing up. Pick up your camera, get out, and shoot. Be there.
